Project milestones

Construction of the ANSTO Synroc® waste treatment plant building has been completed with the facility now in a pre-commissioning phase.

The next stages are process fitout and commission of unit operations, before moving to cold-commissioning, then hot commissioning. Regulatory approval will then be sought to operate the waste treatment plant.

Once operational, Australia will be the first country in the world with co-located and integrated facilities for the irradiation of Mo-99 target plates in the OPAL reactor, production of Mo-99 (via ANSTO’s Mo-99 Manufacturing Facility) and treatment of intermediate-level liquid waste.

Treatment Process

ANSTO Synroc® operates under a quality assurance framework to ensure certifications and accreditations are met.
