National Science Week 2025

Celebrating with events in 2025

Over the next week, ANSTO will be joining the festivities of National Science Week with an exciting lineup of activities that celebrate science and technology. This year's celebrations coincide with the International Year of Quantum Science which provides an ideal opportunity to talk about ANSTO’s activities in this discipline. A summary of what will be happening in an exciting and engaging week follows.

deaf-youth-camp-2025

Thursday 7 – Saturday 9 August: Deaf Youth Science Camp

ANSTO is hosting its inaugural Deaf Youth Science Camp on its campus, welcoming 17 Deaf and hard-of-hearing students aged 12-17 from across Australia. Over three days, participants will engage in hands-on science experiences conducted in Auslan, the unique sign language of the Australian Deaf community, fostering both education and inclusivity in science.

Saturday 9 August: Indigenous Science Experience

For the first time, ANSTO will showcase its indigenous research at the Science Experience in Redfern. This free community event is open to all and will unite Indigenous and Western science through interactive activities like yarning with Elders, learning about bush foods and medicines, Indigenous astronomy, and hands-on STEM activities, including the OPAL Virtual Reality Tour.

National Science Week In-class Design Challenge

For high schools around Australia, ANSTO has created National Science Week In-Class Design Challenge to encourage students to explore nature’s fundamental languages - from quantum science and mathematics to symmetry and pattern recognition in order to address one of the world’s real-world mysteries.

Gut Feelings

Sunday 17 August: Gut Feeling Exhibition @ Hazelhurst Art Gallery, Gymea

ANSTO is proud to support the Gut Feelings exhibition which is an opportunity to see a two metre long by two-metre-high knitted intestine. ANSTO has supported this exhibition by hosting a knitting workshop while the general public heard about from our researchers about our latest medical research.

We hope that you get out and enjoy some of the many activities on offer for 2025 National Science Week.
